Mineral Bath, Roosevelt Baths and Spa, Saratoga Springs, NY

In January, Erin and I, along with our mutual friend "J" all got together for a girls' overnight.  It was J's and my first overnight as moms and Erin somehow convinced both of us to go AND coordinated the whole trip.  Erin had heard about mineral baths in Saratoga Springs, New York.  Saratoga Springs is a cute little historic town where the Roosevelt Baths and Spa is along with the National Museum of Dance.  It's only about three hours from us so just the right distance for an overnight.  I didn't know a whole lot about mineral baths before our trip.  I read that they help soothe inflammation within the body, aid digestion, and are very relaxing.  I was sold when I read "relaxing.'

Our baths were scheduled for 4pm at the Roosevelt Baths and Spa.  We had trouble finding the building and once we got there we were a little rushed.  I was a little apprehensive because I didn't know what to expect.  I'd packed a bathing suit because I wasn't sure if it was a large, public bathing area or what.  I was happy that each bath is done privately in a large, private bath tub..  Massages are done in the same rooms so there are massage tables near the tubs.  The tubs didn't look fancy as I would have expected at a spa but that was ok.  The rooms are dark for relaxation and I was also surprised to see that the bath water was dark and kind of murky from the minerals in the water.  The spa attendant warned us about the water but it was still shocking to see and be in at first.  I couldn't see the bottom and that kind of freaked me out.  It took me about ten minutes in the tub, which was thankfully warm, to relax.  The mineral bath was naturally effervescent and had an odor.  It wasn't unpleasant, just different.  I'm not going to lie, for the first ten minutes in the bath I was not relaxed or comfortable at all.  I couldn't get past the water not being clear and the there was a lot of noise from the other rooms and people in the hallway.  Then suddenly magic happened!  I utterly, totally and completely relaxed.  It was pure bliss.  My mind let go, my body floated, the bubbly water felt like heaven in the tub.  For a half hour i relished every second of the deep relaxation I was in.  Almost a month later and I am still day dreaming about the awesomeness in those thirty minutes.  If you ever get the opportunity to check out the Roosevelt Baths and Spa, I highly recommend you do so.  It's affordable, at $40 for a forty minute bath, and the other spa services were competitively priced.  I didn't get a massage or any other spa services, but the sauna and relaxation room were nice.  You can find booking information here.

Have you ever had a mineral bath or visited a hot spring?  Drop a comment below and let me know your experiences!

2017 Michelle

2017 is here and it's my year to rebuild myself.  So much happened in 216 and I lost track of my needs and good habits.  It's time for restoration and rebuilding...maybe even a new start in some ways.

One of the ways I am taking back me and my life is to take a few minutes each day to myself.  I squeeze 5-10 minutes when I can and sit quietly with a mug of green tea.  Green tea has antioxidants and the quiet time really helps me recharge.  I add a little local honey too for sweetness and the local bees' pollen helps with my allergies.  I feel so much better after I have my tea and "having tea" everyday sounds fancy and happy.  I just adore that time of day.

I'm also trying to strengthen my hair.  The past couple of years were rough on it and I lost a ton of hair after having my son.  I am finally feeling more like myself and getting my hair back into good shape is important to my image and confidence.  I know it sounds superficial but being self conscious about my hair loss really affected me.  I am trying to make sure it stays healthy, conditioning with coconut oil weekly, and taking Biotin for growth.  The waiting game is rough.  I can't wait to be able to have a messy bun again. Grow hair! Grow!

What else?

I am easing back into my fitness routine.  I am back in ballet once a week and trying to get to yoga weekly too.  Last year I moved to rural Pennsylvania and being far from a gym is seriously killing my fitness routine.  I want so badly to get to the gym but being so far away, and the crazy winter weather, don't make that easy.  Instead I am trying to squeeze in squats, planks, and as much movement as possible.  At least walking the dog in my hilly neighborhood is a good cardio workout!

Life is about the journey, right?  What are you all up to?  Comment below and let me know!

2017 Trends Have Me SMH

Trends come and trends go. Some are fun, and some aren’t my fav.  Lately though, my mind has been blown with what’s  around the corner this winter.  A lot of beauty bloggers I watch who have impeccable taste, know the good and bad makeup products, fashionable attire, and even tasteful home décor have been doing clothing hauls straight out of my closet of 1997….my closet door that had Seventeen magazine pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio, Antonio Sabado Jr, LeAnn Rimes and Puff Daddy taped to it.
Recent photos and videos highlighting wide corset resembling belts paired with an oversized sweatshirt dress or ripped up sweater. Even more surprising is the Tommy Hilfiger sweatshirts and hats, Calvin Klein tees, and Adidas sweatshirts.  Any and everything I would have been considred #1 dork over the past few years has now returned among the top trends.  In awkward middle school days, in the late 90s some of these were acceptable but added to the awkward look of acne faced teens.  I’m waiting any day for the U-shaped bangs to return.  Actually I think I will wing out the hair left of part by my ear and do the big U shaped hair hardened with hair spray on the right of my side part. This way I will be the trend setter before it takes shape in the months to come. Adidas pants were not cool just a short item ago, underwhelming compared to Lululemon, Lorna Jane, Under Armor, Nike, Carbon 38, Alo yoga, Bombshell brands and more.  The fact that pants sold at Costco have just returned to high fashion all of a sudden is great for our wallets, especially if you still have your 90s tees. I am waiting for the EXP inside out sweatshirts to make their return.  When I was in high school, fashion wasn’t a big deal.  Abercrombie & Fitch started a bit more emphasis on brands, but baggy jeans and flannel shirts were in fashion and that was that.

I hope children growing up now will have a harder time being unpopular based on their clothing since everything is or just was a trend.  Chokers, velvet, suede, fur, short jeans, tight jeans, flare jeans, boyfriend jeans, every toe shape on a shoe, patent leather, all are trendy, so it’s a win win. Jean jackets, moto jackets, bomber jackets, varsity jackets. You can’t be out of style in 2017, which is sort of impressive, and probably tough on designers.

Either way I hope you enjoy some of my throwbacks.  Please try to look past the quality of photos back then. We barely took them, and these were probably taken on a disposable camera but this is what I found. Follow me on the insta and maybe I will recreate these looks! I quite possible might be able to pull them off without my braces, pimples, and ill fitting bongo jeans rolled up. If champion sweatshirts return with white turtlenecks, I just can’t go that far, but then again, if everyone’s doing it…

All Aboard NY Fashion Week Event

The night of Monday September 12th was filled with more than the typical hustle and bustle of New York because it was New York Fashion Week! I arrived at Pier 81, conveniently next to the ferry I hitched a ride from across the Hudson River to attend the Chasing Sunsets 2017 Fashion Show. I boarded a 160ft yacht, known as the "Fish Bar," in honor of the brand's designer Margaux's father Freddy and his love for the ocean, fishing, and travel.  Every guest was adorned in trendy New York fashion, both daring yet simple, showcasing each attendees individual style. I took in every sight and sound of the city as the sun was slowly setting. Back home, Michelle and I are the only out-of-the box-ers, risking fashion trends that stand out from the ordinary within our circle of friends in the country towns where we reside.  On Monday night, my eyes widened with delight as I saw individualism and personality all around me, including what I call hammer pants paired with pointy toe stilettos, a high waisted tea length circle skirt paired with a sheer cami and caged chunky heeled booties, and more unique pairings which add to New York's lively energy. After checking in with the guest list attendee, we were escorted on board and toured the 3 level yacht. We settled in at the bar listening to a live singer, hired just for the event.  We were enjoying the ambiance where we were anxious to get the first ever look at the Spring Summer 2017 collection by clothing brand Karma For A Cure by Margaux.  I have multiple items from Karma's SS16 line and the soft high quality fabrics are ever-lasting.  Her Fall/Winter 2016 should soon be available at www.KarmaForACure.com come October and I will be checking daily for it's arrival, as well as checking boutiques that carry the elevated resort-wear made to set sail and chase the sun. The event was hosted by Hooch, and after the show, we gathered on the top deck as the yacht set sail for a tour of the beautiful New York skyline.  With wine in hand, the city lights shined bright, & it was an exquisite event with exquisite fashion.  Take a look!

Turkey Kale Soup Recipe

Some of you fabulous readers may remember that I have recently eliminated several ingredients from my diet.  Dairy, soy, gluten and eggs are some of the things I have to avoid.  A bistro near me makes an incredible turkey kale soup that I practically lived off of for a week while I was finding recipes and learning to shop for my new diet.  I knew turkey kale soup was one of the first things I needed to make!

I used the bistro's recipe as an inspiration and think I came pretty close!  Here is a list of ingredients:

1 pound of ground turkey
1 14oz can or 2 cups of chicken broth
2 cups of water
2-3 cups of kale, washed and torn
1 can of crushed tomatoes
1 cup of sliced carrots
1 cup of sliced celery
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
1 teaspoon of onion powder
1 table spoon of seasoned salt

*Peas, rice and other vegetables optional

This is super easy to make and doesn't need too long to simmer.  First you'll need to brown the turkey.  While that's browning combine the water, broth and crushed tomatoes together in a large pot on medium heat.  Add the celery, carrots, and seasonings.  Those will need to simmer.  When the turkey is done, drain it and combine it with the rest in the pot.  Let everything simmer together until the vegetables are cooked.  Once everything else is done, add the kale and let it wilt into the soup.  It only needs to cook for 3-4 minutes max.  That's it!

You can also add leftover cooked rice, peas, squash or other vegetables.  I have added spaghetti squash to it when I add the kale and it's delicious!

I know we are into Spring time now so you might be tired of soup, but this one is lean and pairs well with a salad or light sandwich.  I hope you enjoy!

Michelle's Favorite Drug Store Buys

Everyone loves a good deal.  I am always on the hunt for ways to save money but aren't we all?  One of the ways I try and save money on my beauty and hygiene products is by purchasing as many as I can at drug stores rather than buying more upscale brands.

I love Lush's Karma Kreme, which you can read about here, but I also buy more inexpensive lotions too.  One of my favorites is Cocoa Butter by Hollywood Beauty. It also has vitamin E and is very thick and nurturing.  It's wonderful on eczema and a good makeup remover in a pinch.  It's about $5 and a really good value.

I also always buy FrizzEase Touch Up Cream.  My hair is wavy and dry and it takes away frizz in seconds and refreshes my hair partway through the day or when I am having a particularly frizzy day.  Here is a before and after:

Frizz Ease TouchUp Cream is roughly $8 at Walgreens and makes a huge difference as you can see.  I have been routinely purchasing it for the last seven or eight years.  I love it!

Ever since I had my baby in September, my hair has been dry and falling out.  My usual Paul Mitchell and Redken shampoos and conditioners weren't helping.  Deep conditioner, coconut oil, and vitamin E helped a little but not enough.  I was close to having a few inches of hair cut off when I grabbed a new shampoo and conditioner at Target.  I just wanted some inexpensive ones to get me through until I had my hair appointment and could purchase my usuals at the salon.  I am pleased to announce that my hair is shiny and soft again thanks to Argan Oil of Morocco renewing shampoo and conditioner.  The difference is crazy great!  My hair feels healthier and looks so much better.  I recommend these and will definitely be purchasing again!  Best part is that they are affordable.

What are your favorite drugstore buys?

Becca Brightening Corrector

My makeup routine has come a long way from foundation and eyeliner to a full layered 'system' of first skincare, then makeup!

I have my I'm running errands today makeup and my girls night out makeup, as well as my must haves and my I shouldn't have bought this piles.

I have my weekend getaway and vacation minimal products, and my buy a 2nd to stock up on in case this product ever gets discontinued items.

One of my virtual You Tube friends Samantha Schuerman did a video on how to get what she calls "instagram face."  Sam has oily skin like I do, so I take her word on all her reviews, even more than the word of professional makeup artists.  Sam recommended Becca Brighener for under the eyes.  I had never tried a Becca product before, even though I know the Becca highlighters were all the rage.  Let's be honest here. I am just a normal girl, so I don't need 3 Ikea Alex drawers and a separate 'beauty room' to store 100s of barely used makeup products.  I need just my essentials.
Okay I do have one Ikea Alex drawer because it looks oh-so-chic and I'm a sucker for organizational items and it really did keep me from having 7 different areas in my bathroom, bedroom, purse, junk drawer, and basement bin where my makeup was stored prior to purchasing the Alex drawers.  That aside, I didn't know which Becca highlighter to pick, why it was so expensive, or why I needed to be highlighted to begin with.  I had no desire to look like Edward Cullen in the sunlight, blinding people in the Target parking light from the light reflecting off of the $30 something dollar sparkles I took time applying to my cheekbones.  I knew 'strobing' was the new facial trend, creating a dewy look that looked natural but wasn't, but I'm not a follower of each and every trend.  I think Michelle would tend to agree that we each walk to the beat of our own drum, sometimes with inspiration from fellow fashionistas and sometimes from our own unique creative flares. We both would be more likely than 99% of our friends to walk out in public with an 'abnormal' look, yet don't confirm to the replications of every trend of the moment in beauty and fashion.  If that was the case, in just the last 2 seasons we would have gone from blue hair to Kylie lip color, to pink hair, to silver grey hair to vamp lip, and from tanned brown contoured cheeks to glistening dewy pale skin, from double lined winged eyes to no wing, from eyelash extensions and denim culottes to pierced noses and chins and plaid shirts.  I digress.  I didn't know which Becca brightener to buy since Jaclyn Hill's was sold out so I bought none.  No go on the highlighter for me, but I trust Sam and I decided to splurge on her recommendation of a brightener instead, after seeing how GORG her skin looked in her tutorial.

It really does photograph well and can be purchased at Sephora HERE!

Denim

I came across this piece while 'browsing.'  It's not something I had seen before and if someone described it, I wouldn't be interested.  my eyes narrowed in on it though, I stopped scrolling, and took another look.  I probably liked that it was different.  Of course my eclectic mind added a different look.  I pictured it with over-the-knees boots and a smokey eye with nude lip.  I thought of all the denim pieces that were just too much of a reach to be stylish, such as Michelle's post of denim jumpsuits, the long denim skirts, the short denim skirts that came and quickly left the fashion scene, but I didn't care.  You may also remember from my fringe post here that I hold a strong opinion against the ever so popular jean jacket.

This piece stuck out to me.  It looked comfortable too.  I found the doppelganger first, but it turned out I had stumbled across a close dup to the Alexa Chung Pixie Dress by Adriano Goldschmied, a highly sought after piece with a high price tag, which I'll show you first.  Sidenote:  I'm a huge fan of AG's jeans!

This can be bought here.

I received my dup and really like the look it will provide against every other girl's all black outfit or typical jeans and boots look I will see surrounding me this winter.

This was purchased online from Forever 21 but the label says it's made by Life in Progress, which is such a creative name.
It can be found here.

Allergen Friendly Cupcakes

Cupcakes are one of my favorite things in the world.  Cupcakes are yummy, fun and always put me in a happy mood.  Cupcakes might not be the healthiest thing around but for celebrations and treats, they are my go too.  Recently my son, now three months, was dignosed with severe food allergies.  Hopefully he outgrows them but for the time being I had to remove the "Top 8" allergens from my diet while breast feeding.  The Top 8 Allergens are: dairy, soy, shell fish, fish, tree nuts, peanuts, eggs and wheat.  We were already an allergy family, avoiding dairy, soy, shell fish and fish so I wasn't entirely worried about removing gluten and eggs.  Boy was I wrong!  It was a shock at first and now, two weeks later, I am finally getting used to it.

One thing that has made it easier is that I know of a local farmer's market that has a vendor selling allergy friendly cupcakes.  The Mo'Pweeze Bakery offers cupcakes that are vegan and do not have any of the Top 8 Allergens in them.  They are delicious!  I could make my own cupcakes but I am a terrible baker.  Knowing that I can pick up a weekly treat for myself has made this whole experience easier.  Also, if I made my own cupcakes then I would definitely eat more than one a week!

I have been getting Mo'Pweeze cupcakes for my family and I several months now.  They are always fresh and tasty.  I prefer some flavors over others but that would be true of any cupcakes.  I have probably had most of the flavors already.  Two of my favorites are Moo's Choco Choc which is a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting.  The chocolate flavor is rich without being over bearing.  The chocolate frosting is delicious!  I also like Jamaican me Crazy Blue Velvet.  It's just a fun cupcake!  I actually got one this past weekend at the farmer's market:

I also got a Triple Blond Ale With Orange-Lime infused frosting.  I didn't taste much of the ale flavor.  In fact, it tasted like a delicious vanilla cupcake.  The frosting was great though!  It was very airy and the lime flavor was fragrant and tasty.  My only complaint was that it tasted like it needed to be at a summer barbecue and not served during the winter.  I will skip this flavor until it's block party season and then I will definitely be bringing these to events.

Here's a photo:

I rounded out my trip with two Funfetti flavored cupcakes for my girls.  They loved them.  I didn't get to taste them this time but from memory they taste like vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting.  They are very cute with their fun blue frosting.

Check out Mo'Pweeze Bakery if you are in the Northern NJ area or order and have them shipped!  Here is their website: http://www.mopweezebakery.com/.  Right now they do not have a brick and mortar store to visit but I hope they do in their future.  I like supporting them because I am also supporting a local business!  Shop local!

Michelle's LimeCrime Review

I had heard a little about Lime Crime lipsticks in 2014 but Erin was the one who convinced me to look into them.  Lime Crime is a makeup brand that focuses on dramatic and untraditional lip colors.  Lime Crime features blues, greens, and purples amongst other daring shades.  The founder, Doe Deere, is said to have started the line because she was tired of seeing all the same colors available.  For me, brightly colored lipstick is something fun but not necessarily a staple in my makeup bag. I have been experimenting more lately and getting more confident wearing colors aside from cranberry and red.   So when I saw Erin in one of Lime Crime's pink shades and she swore that it lasted "forever,"  I knew that I needed to try it. Read Erin's review here.

Erin and I took advantage of Lime Crime's Black Friday sale to combine shipping.  I love makeup products and trying new things but I am less likely to try something new if I can't easily return it to a store or it's not refundable.  Lime Crime does not allow exchanges but you can get a refund or store credit within 30 days,  minus shipping fees back to them of course.  I was glad that Erin told me about their sale!

I ordered two colors: Geradium which is one of the Unicorn Lipsticks and Jinx, a Lime Crime Velvetines.  Geradium is a HOT pink.  I should have paid closer attention to it being a Unicorn Lipstick.  It is the epitome of a unicorn pink.  The website didn't really do it justice.  The color is gorgeous and I liked it but it is definitely not my color.  It is way too much pink for a redhead.  Jinx is a vamp, deep plum color.  It is very different from what I would normally wear.  Apparently I was feeling adventurous when I ordered!

The Lime Crime Velvetine smells like vanilla cake batter.  It applied smoothly and dried in an instant, matte velvet finish.  On me it is is much darker than the photo showed and that it looks like it will apply.  I LOVED applying it and was very impressed with the quality of the pigment.  It didn't sink into my lip creases or bleed at all.  I didn't even use a lip primer!

Here it is right after application:

Here it is after four hours and no touch ups:

During the time between photos I had eaten, drank from a glass and kissed my baby and it didn't smudge or stain at all!  I may be in love!  Yes, it's a little dark but I do still like it.  It is very on trend right now too.

Do you like vamp lips?

Lusting over LUSH

After all this time and gifting multiple products by LUSH, I finally used LUSH myself for the first time, thanks to Michelle!  We met for brunch, which we often do, and she surprised me with an unbelievable gift!  I have to say the presentation wrapping was GORG!  What a fun way to wrap a gift!

The gift wrapped in a headwrap, in my favorite aqua color I might add, contained 4 LUSH products!
I always wanted to try the bath bombs & she had picked out two for me!
She even customized her choosing based on my fitness soreness from lifting, since one contains salts which help relieve muscle soreness.
Michelle chose White Sea Salt Bath Bomb and Honey Bee Bath Bomb.
I thought the bath bombs would be my most loved products, but the smell of the Karma Kream is delightful!  It is pathouli scented but it reminds me of an orange scent and it's so refreshing!  I keep it on my nightstand, which I never did keep lotion there before, but I love applying it before I go to sleep to put me in a happy calming place before I drift off to sleep for the night.  The Santa Belly jelly soap was enjoyable but nothing to repurchase, as it didn't lather all that much and I kept dropping little red jelly pieces all over the shower floor.  I also didn't know if it was true soap since I barely got any lather so I used normal soap after as well.  The smell was an apple like scent in my opinion.  Children may enjoy it more for the texture and fun gold stars within.
LUSH also supplied a card with the many ways to use the tie the scarf.
Such a thoughtful gift and I loved it!!

Pictured below is my first bath bomb experience with the White Sea Salt Bath Bomb, which turned pink!  (no tub staining occurred)

Read Michelle's detailed LUSH review HERE

I love all of the fresh, natural ingredients, and LUSH is highly recommend on my list, especially for gift giving. The aromas from the gift are even better than your favorite baked goods because they last.  They make your car smell amazing on the way home too!

Please note LUSH ingredients are recommended to be used quite soon after purchase, so stocking up for year later is not ideal for some of the products.  Fresh is best!

Visit your store for the smells and the latest rotation of bath bombs offered, as well as demonstrations, and choose a git set already made if you so desire.  LUSH can be purchased in your local store or at www.lushusa.com.

Let me know in the comments what your favorite LUSH products are!

Too Faced Born This Way- Michelle's Review

I feel like the world has been talking about Too Faced's Born This Way foundation recently.  Erin even tried it and reviewed it which you can read about here.  I am always skeptical of foundation reviews because they normally don't apply to me, as I have freckles and can't use medium or full coverage foundation.  However, reviewers, Erin and other bloggers raved about it so much that I had to try it.

Here are my thoughts about it!  The bottle is beautiful and it cute enough to keep out to admire.  I tried it and as I feared, but tried to ignore, the coverage is too much for freckled skin.  However, it feels luxurious, blends easily with fingers or a makeup sponge and is gorgeous on.  My skin did look fresh even though the full coverage covered my freckles too much.  I did find that it settled into my fine lines after a few hours.  I would have to wear it with primer to help combat the whole wrinkles thing and reblend it around my eyes as the day goes on.  That's true for lots of makeup though.  I had hoped that this magical, raved about foundation would not require primer.  In my mind such a foundation exists and I will continue to search for it.
In conclusion, Too Faced Born This Way foundation is worth the $39.00 price tag.  It's a great product even though it isn't for me.  I recommend it if you do not have freckled skin!

MAC vs Purlisse BB Cream

I have red hair and freckles so finding foundation is always a challenge.  Some formulas are too heavy and cover my freckles too much leaving a huge difference between the appearance of freckles on my face and the rest of my body.  I refer to this is "freckle muting."  Freckle muting is a no in my life.  Nothing looks more unnatural than muted freckles on my face and the freckles on the rest of me seem to stand out even more.  No thank you!
During the summer I accidentally discovered Ulta's BB cream.  It gave me just the right amount of coverage and looked specially nice in the summer when I generally don't need as much coverage or wear as much makeup.  When the weather turned colder and my tan faded the color I was wearing, medium, was too dark.  I tried the shade below, light, but it was too light!  Obviously I knew that I could blend my own shade but my mornings are crazy hectic and getting the shade right takes too much time on especially crazy mornings.  So what's a freckled girl to do?
Fate stepped in and Ipsy sent me Pur Lisse Tinted Moist BB Cream.  Holy Batman!  My life is forever changed.  I was hooked from the first application.  It feels like lotion and is as easy to apply and blend as moisturizer.  It gives my skin just enough coverage without being too much and feels wonderful on.  It fits perfectly into my hectic morning since I can apply it so quickly and easily with my fingers.  It's basically the best thing since sliced bread.  I ordered it ASAP...apparently every other Ipsy Glam Bag recipient did too because it was on back order.  I was so bummed!
A few days later I was on my way to LA and had some time to waste at the airport.  I wandered into MAC and decided to try their BB Cream while I waited for my Pur Lisse.  I sampled it in the store and immediately noted that it was not as creamy feeling as Pur Lisse.  It felt more like regular foundation but the light medium color matched my skin tone so I decided to purchase it.  It's ok.  It's good enough but definitely not as wonderful as Pur Lisse.  It doesn't last as long and is harder to apply.  I wouldn't likely purchase again and it isn't really a good value.  In my opinion, a drug store BB cream would probably be just as good.
Pur Lisse for the win!

Botox or Black Friday?

I was beside myself when I realized that my thoughts were deep into the idea of actually contemplating getting Botox.  I thought cosmetic surgery was never going to be something I desired until I was 'over the hill!'  In my mid thirties, my face has started showing more and more signs of aging.  More recently, my lips have even showed signs, with some feathering and lines appearing around the once definitive outer edges.  With age, the naturally occurring collagen lessens.

Until I mentioned it out loud, I never knew how many people I actually know have gotten either Botox or lip enhancers!  I thought only California actresses got any of that, but it's more common than one might think!  Even girls in their twenties are plumping their lips, but more so for a certain look than for avoidance of age-defiance.

I was set on Botox, or Xeomin which is similar, but the cost.  Oh the cost!  It isn't feasible for me right now.

My YouTube friend Brianna works for a plastic surgeon in Atlanta.  (I never met her, but she did personally SnapChat me back, which totally made my day and made me feel like a 14 yr old when a boy from a boyband waves in her direction from on stage.  I assume.  I wouldn't know.  I went to school when grunge bands were in.  We wore oversized jeans or JNCOs, flannels over tees, and combat boots.  High fashion nor high pitch screaming girls were not cool.)  Anyway, I learned from Brianna that medical grade skincare is incomparable to over the counter skincare products due to the deeper level of penetration to change the cellular makeup & is not readily available, but the doctor she works for is the best of the best and it is available through him!  I never heard of medical grade skincare until now!

I watched some of her recommendations here https://www.youtube.com/user/BriannaStanko  And then I watched more, and more, and this went on for months.  The products were pricey, but injections were even more, and each day that I hesitated my skin was aging another day so the least I could do was try some of the products she was using herself.  I waited for Black Friday  and purchased 5 items, targeting my face and lips.  I went with the brands SkinMedica and Skinceuticals, although my wish list is already full of other products to try! I couldn't narrow down what I wanted but thought I'd start with a few for now and can rotate some in next time I order and depending upin the time of year if my skin reacts well.  I cannot wait to give these a good try and hope to see a difference, if not at least prevent further aging.

For now, Black Friday beat out Botox for me, and I even got a free eye treatment and a surprise free sample with my purchase!

Some things can't be mixed so I have to figure out the exact skin care routine I'll be using morning vs. night this winter but I now feel like I have the fountain of youth in my hands. Brianna's channel also detials her current morning and night time routines to give you an idea, & lists 20% codes sometimes as well.  Please let me know if you have tried or will try any!  They can be purchased here https://www.premierlook.com/ !

Falsies? Really?

I'm here to school you a little bit on falsies...as in fake eyelashes, not bra stuffing.  Yes I wear fake eyelashes.  Sometimes.  Because it's fun, that's why.

Actually they aren't fun to put on, but once they are on, bah-bam, totally worth it! They open the eye and add depth to your makeup look, and a sparkle to your eye.  I do love the glam look, but for an al natural look, I'd go without them.

I have always worn Ardell brand fake lashes, all synthetic.  I wore them more so in my party days, but I still enjoy the added glamour for a nice dinner out.  I watch my virtual friends online speak of so many amazing brands, but I have never spent any more than $4 on a pair, and even then I stretched out the number of uses.  House of Lashes Iconic is one of the middle priced pairs that are very popular, and the reason I decided to try them is because so many people recommended their dark colored glue, let alone the lashes.  Ardell glue wasn't my favorite so I ordered the dark glue, a pair of Iconic lashes, and a pair of Bourdoir lashes.  These is the shape and lash style I prefer, although they make many shapes/styles.

Iconic

Bourdoir

I have yet to try the Bourdoir, but I tried The Iconic and my opinion is...drum roll...

They are huge and gorgeous all at the same time!  I wouldn't wear them on the daily because they are over the top for Saturday at Shop Rite of Home Depot, but out in night time restaurant lighting they are stunning!

Both can be purchased at www.HouseofLashes.com

Jumpsuit Journey

Jumpsuits have been in for awhile now and I have been lusting after one!  I think they are so chic and so easy to dress.  I am a huge Project Runway fan and there have been so many cute jumpsuits on recent seasons.  "Kelly From The Deli" who was runner up this past season, season 14, made so many cute, funky jumpsuits and reawakened my semi dormant jumpsuit dream.

In my last post ( read it here ) I talked about trying to find an outfit with bell sleeves and was partly interested in a romper with a bell sleeve.  Well, my search for a romper in the Fall in NJ ultimately led me also trying on jumpsuits.  Prior to this month, I had all but given up on jumpsuits.  I had tried on too many to count without finding one that was right.  Project Runway was fresh in my mind and I was trying to stuff anyway so I figured "why not?" and tried on a few.  As usual, they weren't fitting.  My body is still a weird size and I am petite, only 5'2", so it's hard to find pieces that aren't too long without needing major alterations.

Lo and behold, as I was leaving the mall empty handed, an 80% off sign at Macy's caught my eye.  I stopped to glance through the rack just in case and grabbed a couple dresses to try on.  At that point I was desperate!  I also grabbed two jumpsuits.  I didn't check labels or prices.  At that point as long as it fit and looked ok then it was going home with me.

It was a miracle!  One of the jumpsuits fit me perfectly!  It didn't need hemming, is comfortable, and flatters my changing body.  I actually did a happy dance in the fitting room.  The jumpsuit is by Nicole Miller from her Nicole line.  It was marked down to $15.99!

I ended up wearing it to the wedding I attended in California.  I didn't get many good pictures of myself but here is the best:

I planned on wearing black, patent leather heels but at the last minute switched to sandals because the ceremony was outdoors in a grassy area.  I was afraid of tripping while holding my baby if I wore heels.  i don't think the sandals are awful-  I just always think heels are better!  I accessorized with a sparkly headband from Forever 21 and my sparkliest earrings.  A necklace would have been good too but impossible with a baby.  My lipstick is Mac's Russian Red which is one of their matte shades.  I really like it.

Halloween 2015

Thanks to Michelle's extensive wardrobe and dance background, my Halloween costume came together easily because of her!  It was an easy DYI low budget costume, and gave me a reason to wear an overload of pink!

One of my Beachbody friends posted a link for how to screen print here!  I bought the supplies I needed at Michael's, and gave it a try!

As for my makeup, I first applied the NYX stick in Milk, and added MakeUpGeek's shadow in  Ice Queen.  I added pink NYX lipliner as on my eyes and muted it with pink Loreal shadows.  The final touch of LimeCrime velveteen liquid lipstick in pink velvet topped off the look!  It stayed on so well I woke up with it still on, even after a shower!  I wrote about this lipstick here!

Did you guess my costume yet?  I was Workout Barbie!

Since I'm a health coach for a living, I thought it was fitting, but I also thought of it on a deeper level.  You see, Barbie can be anything she wants to be.  How many different Barbie's did you have growing up?  THIS latest controversial ad really struck me, but not as controversial.  I found it empowering.  The very reason I took the leap to become a Beachbody coach came to mind, and this ad stands behind my beliefs that a person can be anything he or she wants to be and should not conform to society's beliefs.  I coach for my love of helping people.  I coach because I can decide my own goals and reach them for myself.  I coach to make my own rules.  If you are open to hearing about an opportunity to do the same, to be present at home with your family, to make a financial contribution to your family and their future, to be inspirational, to be healthy and get paid to do so, to be your own boss, my team will welcome you!  Check us out HERE!  I coach to achieve happiness in the one life I was given.  I coach to make a difference and leave a legacy, just like Barbie.

Pumpkin Spiced NOT!

If you've followed our blog, you know I'm a monthly buyer of all types of products from Vitacost!
I buy food, cleaning products, and skincare products from the Vitacost website, and this was one of the first skin products I tried.
Andalou Naturals Fruist Stem Cell Science Glycolic Mask Brightening Pumpkin Honey
I have 2 secrets to admit though.

First, I am not a fan of anything pumpkin, except decorations.  I'd pick a chocolate treat over a pumpkin tasting food any day!   I still liked this product, but will try another 'scent' next time.
Second, this is the first time I ever used a face mask!  My skin is showing signs of aging, most likely from years in the sun as a child, so I thought I'd try this out and I love it!  It brings out the dirt and leaves your skin smooth once washed off.  It was easy, as I only left it on for 10 minutes!

I loved the quote too.  "Knowledge is limited.  Imagination encircles the world." - Albert Einstein

Andalou has many other products I have saved on my Vitacost wishlist and can't wait to try!

My other post about Vitacost and past purchases can be found here!

Bell Sleeves-LOVE!

It's no secret that the 70s are back.  Boho, maxi skirts and now bell sleeves are in.  I adore bell sleeves.  I always have!  There's just something so fun about them!

Bell sleeves add visual interest to basic dresses.  The silhouette given by bell sleeves is gorgeous.  I love the way that bell sleeves photograph.  While they are fun to add to an everyday outfit, I think they are even more awesome when saved for special events.  I am attending a wedding in a couple of weeks and spent this past week searching for just the right outfit.  Boy, was that a challenge!

Again, I recently had a baby and my body is still "settling" for lack of a better word.  I find bell sleeves so beautiful and with the wedding being the only special occasion on my upcoming calendar, I definitely wanted something with a bell sleeve. I probably tried on 15 different tops and dresses with bell sleeves but didn't purchase any for the wedding.  None of them were functional for that particular day and venue.  In their defense, part of the issue was geography; shopping for a dress in New Jersey for a Fall wedding in Southern California was not easy.  Sweaters and down coats fill our stores but it is still 80 degrees in Orange County.  Whomp whomp!

I pictured myself in a dress or even romper with lace bell sleeves.  I've never owned a romper or anything with lace bell sleeves.  I tried on a few different options but nothing was right.

I tried this blue dress from Francesca's:

I had high hopes that it would fit me but it was a bit long for my petite frame.  The bottom and sleeves would need hemming and I was afraid too much of the lace would be removed to give it the look I like.  The color was beautiful though!

I pictured myself in something like this:

Since I didn't have a lot of time to wait for shipping I tried to find something like it at the mall.  This particular one is one I saw on the Nordstrom's website but I don't live near a Nordstrom so I couldn't try this one on.  I went in nearly every store but nothing fit or was like I pictured.  I was so frustrated!

On a different day I saw a similar dress at Marshalls.  Of course I LOVED the sleeves but they were out of my size.  This one is by Free People and actually much prettier.  I am half tempted to order it.

Anyway, I gave up.  Bell sleeves were not meant to be in my life this month.  I found another outfit with a tulle skirt and cream colored top.  I am still working on shoes but I will post a photo of the whole outfit when I get it together.
