Brightening Powder & Primer For Spring/Summer

I usually stick to my usual make up essentials that I've used for years.  For some, essentials are mascara and lipgloss, but what I mean by essentials are foundation, blush, bronzer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, & mascara.  Over the last year or so, I have added concealer, brow products, powder, and contouring and highlighting products to my essentials.  Once I learned of these products, I never looked back and they became daily use items.  I don't actually wear makeup every day, but when I do, I go all or nothing.

I rarely try new releases since I am quite happy with what I currently use, and don't want to end up with items I don't use.  I avoid wasted products, wasted space storing them, and wasted money.

Since spring is approaching I wanted to try a brightening powder.  At first I didn't understand what the mix of colors would accomplish on my skin, but my beauty guru youtubers sold me again!  The question was which product to try!
Guerlain makes a tin full of colorful powder balls that you poof onto your face.  The colors diffuse the light and give you a brighter appearance.

Bobbi Brown is also all the rage right now. It is an illuminating powder for a healthy-looking glow.

My budget led me to NYX brand.  I had heard it was extremely close to Bobbi Brown's, which of course has a smoother finely ground powder consistency, but only ever so slightly.

Everyone has a different face shape, but thanks to Guerlain's video, I now know that the rule of thumb for applying brightening powder is to apply it in the shape of a capital G, and then a backwards G on the opposite side of the face, which hits the direct center of the face as well, creating the all over brightness!  (view Guerlain's video here)Brightening powders are described as an all over powder that diffuses light and brightens the face.  Anything that illuninates and takes away dullness gets put on the essential list in my makeup bag!

Brightening powder would by my last step in my makeup application, aside from my setting spray.
What do you think is my first step?

I had never used a primer before applying my foundation  I tried one at MAC's counter once, but knew that with an oily forehead, it wasn't a good decision to purchase.  There are so many mixed opinions on primers, and I didn't see the real purpose of something that's getting covered up anyway!  I also didn't know where to begin with BB creams, CC creams, pore minimizers, and primers. That many options makes my head spin.  With the new release of so many products by NYX,  and so many great reviews on their quality, including the brightening powder, I decided to try the Angel Veil primer.  I had heard silicone based products are better than oil based for oil prone skin like mine, and so far I like this product!

Many reviews compared NYX Angel Veil it to the Hourglass Veil Mineral which has been a fan favorite on youtube.

Again with spring on my mind,  I want to create a brighter look starting with a smooth silicone canvas, where I can add highlight and darkens exactly where I feel is needed.  I like both dewy and matte makeup looks, and can create both with this primer.  The best part is keeping my makeup bag up to date is doable without spending big bucks on high end products!
